This work was commissioned through the initiative of Doreen Cumming by the Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music. The impetus for this piece sprang from the popular (and wilfully misconceived) idea that the viola is somehow an ugly, but necessary, big sister to the violin. In this work, I like to think of the viola creating an angular musical paradox by misguidedly aspiring to be more like a violin.
