Gaetano Donizetti was born in Bergamo, Lombardia, Italy, 1797 and died there in 1848. Over the course of his career he wrote almost 70 operas but also a number of orchestral works, concertos and chamber music including this gem. It was originally scored for oboe and harp in F minor. Its beautiful lyrical melody and simple accompaniment has made it an audience and encore favourite.
