Originally written around 1900 for flute and piano, the “Carmen” Fantasy on Themes from Bizet’s Opera is probably the only surviving work of Francois Borne. He was a virtuoso flutist who played with the Grand Theatre of Bordeaux and was professor of flute at the Toulouse Conservatory.
The work is a showpiece favourite and and has been orchestrated several times over the past 100 years. The flute part is unchanged except for some editorial suggestions and corrections from the sources.
