Mozart’s Symphony no 40 is probably one of his most loved works. This work and the Symphonies Nos 39 and 41 are possibly the only three works that Mozart wrote without commission – for an unknown, unrealised project or even posterity. There is no record of them being performed in his lifetime. The first movement is adored for its energetically intertwined character of grace and melancholy. This is an unabridged transcription for two flutes, two clarinets and piano.
